A trip to San Francisco and the Emergency Room...

Holy Moly.

I have had the craziest last few days, I apologize for my absence and I feel SO behind in the bloggy world. But alas, here is my story of the last few days - the good, the BAD, and the ugly.

On Thursday I had the day off, and Josh had school so I decided to have a girls day with myself and headed into San Fran. I was so proud of myself for making it all the way to downtown SF without using my gps!! haha On my way there I saw this license plate and thought it was cute, but then it turned creepy because an old man was driving the car...
After I got home from the city I went to the gym and then got ready for Josh's hockey game. Our friends Stephanie and Anthony joined us for the game and we had a great time watching Josh's team win!

Friday I worked.

Saturday I worked until 5, then I came home and went to the gym, and then Joshy and I made tortellini and garlic bread for dinner -yum! Then after dinner we made our first fire of the fall/winter season! I love having a fire, it makes the house seem so much more homey.
On Sunday we had every intention of going home to visit my parents and pick out some of the pumpkins that my dad had grown in his garden... and maybe visit this cute little puppy as well...
...but instead all "you know what" broke lose in the Kerri-Carey household.

I woke up Sunday morning to Josh sleeping in a ball with a wash cloth on his head. I immediately woke him up to ask why it was there, to which he explained that he was having hot/cold spells and it was keeping him cool. After taking his temp and finding out he had a low grade fever I got him in some sweats and made sure he spent the day on the couch resting.
Throughout the day he maintained his fever and even after taking Tylenol and drinking water he was still feeling icky. So I made some home made chicken noodle soup - which he hardly ate any of on Sunday, but it has been a blessing to have around yesterday and today.
After we had soup for dinner on Sunday we watched some Extreme Make Over: Home Edition. And I decided to test out my new lotion and hand gloves, because ever since the weather has changed my hands have been even more dry than usual.
They actually worked out great, and hand my hands feeling baby soft in about 15 minutes - so worth it!
After TV and lotion gloves we went up to bed, to what would be the worst night we've had in a very long time.

At 1:30 in the morning Josh still hadn't fallen asleep and was super hot, so I was going to give him some Tylenol and crackers. So I gave him the Tylenol, he ate 2 crackers, had a bit of water, and then he wanted to go pee before he tried to sleep again. So he got up and went into the bathroom and went pee. Then I heard and bunch of banging and then silence. I peeked in the bathroom and didn't seem him in the mirror, so I went in and he was out cold on the floor (the banging I heard was him falling and hitting the toilet and the wall on his way down).

When he starts to come to I tried to get him to put his head between his knees because he is dizzy but he wouldn't do it. He just wants to lay down. So he lays down and within seconds he is up holding onto the toilet throwing up. At this point I'm like what he eff do I do, so I call my mom who walks us through steps we should take. We get Josh all cleaned up and back to bed, and we stay up till 3AM in the off chance he hit his head and may have a concussion. But of course, even after it is okay to go to sleep neither of us sleep all night.

At 6:30 in the morning I can see he is only getting worse, his fever is higher, he is shaking and panicky looking. I asked him if he needed to use the bathroom, which he said he didn't want to because he was scared he would fall again, so finally I slowly coax him out of bed to use the bathroom - and as SOON as he is done peeing he starts throwing up again. After wards he takes a shower, I call his mom, who calls his sister who lives in the same town and she heads over. I get Josh showered and back in bed, and by the time Amber got to our house I was dressed and was in the process of getting Josh dressed.

We then head to the ER, where Josh passes out again in triage, and then they put him in a wheelchair to bring him to a bed in the ER. Before they can get him out of the chair and in the bed the poor guy says he thinks he is going to throw up (side note: they have him wearing a mask the whole time in case he had the flu) so the nurses are just like "hold on sweetie, hold on" and he is like no I can't and starts throwing up in the mask because they didn't take it off of him. So finally they take it off of the poor kid and he throws up everywhere. Then they get him stripped down and into bed, and hooked up to fluids.

I know it's mean that I took a picture, but I had to send our Mom's a picture while we were there so they knew he was okay (in relative terms of course).
Two litres of fluids, some nausea meds, fever meds, and a bunch of tests later they determine he has a viral infection and severe dehydration. After getting some rest in the ER he was released around lunch time. Then we brought him home and got him in some clean jammies and he went to sleep on the couch. I had to get ready for work, so Amber picked up the prescription they gave him for more nausea pills and then she came over to stay with him while I was at work.

He slept pretty much all of yesterday, and drank a LOT more fluids yesterday (thankfully!). Last night was a lot better, but still somewhat restless for me. I was so exhausted, but still really worried about him, so for the first time I can say I was RELIEVED to hear him snoring last night haha.

Today I am working a split shift 8-12 then 5-9, shitty I know, so before I left for work this morning I made sure he took his dizzy pills and went to the bathroom while I was there. Then I called him around 10:30 to make sure he was okay, and he had just woken up and was getting ready to go downstairs.

Then when I got home around 12:30 I heated up some of the home made soup and made him a grilled cheese for lunch. I'm so thankful he is eating it, because it is the best thing for him, and it won't upset his stomach.

His temperature is hovering between 98-99, so I'm feeling better about that, but I am still watching him really close.

So there you have it, a crazy past couple of days, but I am SO happy Joshy is okay and home safe.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

-Katie

The license plate is cute. Maybe it was his wife’s car? Strange.

I wish we had a fireplace. It is so cozy and calming. The dinner you made sounds delicious.

I’m sorry that Josh got so sick. I would have been really scared. It sounds like you handled everything really well and I’m glad that he is back home and on the mend. You’re a good girlfriend for taking such good care of him and making him homemade soup! Take care.
